How the Cool Kids do Ethical Fashion

There are bloggers like me whose whole thing is ethical fashion, then there are the super-popular, super-cool style bloggers who just happen to wear ethical stuff sometimes. Bloggers like Keiko Lynn, who use their significant popularity to promote sustainable brands like Eileen Fisher and Swedish Hasbeens. Or Latonya Yvette, who rocks the heck out of som Ace and Jig.

I don't want to sound like a total fangirl, but I really admire bloggers who have amassed huge followings and a crazy amount of influence over the fashion industry. It allows consumers to see a wider range of personal styles, body types, skin colors, and geographies that were only occasionally accessible when I was growing up (anyone remember Seventeen Magazine's "School Zone" feature?). I also love seeing brands like Everlane styled in a way that veers from the company's minimalist aesthetic, or Mata Traders' traditionally sweet silhouettes dusted with a bit of punk.

Anyway, I thought I'd give a shout out to a few of the influential bloggers I follow, and show how they're styling some of my favorite ethical brands. Clockwise from top left, here's what the cool girls are up to:

Latonya Yvette

I love Latonya Yvette's artsy, laid-back aesthetic, and I've discovered quite a few new designers through her style posts. She also writes lovely thought pieces on motherhood, design, and social justice, and recently launched a collaboration with indie shoe line Bryr (made in NYC).

Keiko Lynn

Keiko Lynn is basically blogger royalty, boasting collaborations with brands like Coach, Kate Spade, and Urban Decay (she also just interviewed Jennifer Aniston – whaaaaat?). She's a vintage nut like me, and also makes/ upcycles her own clothes on occasion. Above, Keiko is wearing a fair trade dress by Carolina K and Swedish Hasbeens Braided Sky Highs.

Song of Style

Aimee Song is a fashion blogger who also works full-time as an interior designer. In her about video, she describes looking at magazines growing up and not seeing anyone who looked like her; so, she started doing her own thing instead. "People react to the realness of you," she says, which probably explains her massive popularity. Keeping it real in Paris above, Aimee shows off Everlane's Modern Loafer.

Natalie Off Duty

Natalie Suarez is a professional model who shares her adventures on her fashion and lifestyle blog, Natalie Off Duty. Although her persona is definitely on the aspirational side (what, you weren't invited to Seoul Fashion Week either?), I like that she works with brands like Timberland that are committed to sustainability. Her sister, Dylana Suarez, also has a great blog that showcases ethical brands like Ace and Jig and Cleobella. Above, Natalie is wearing Timberland's high heeled Swazey boots.
